Call to book
The site is written for two kinds of traveller: households in CT13 and the CT3 villages heading out to a London airport, and visitors flying in to play Royal St George's or Prince's, to stay at the Bay or to work at Discovery Park. Express Travel Kent takes bookings around the clock, and every journey is arranged in advance.
On this page: typical times to each airport, the roads that lead out of town, where a car can pull in among the narrow streets inside the walls, how the toll house at Sandwich Bay affects a pickup, and what to tell us when golf clubs are part of the luggage.
Airport Transfer Service
Typical drive times from an address in Sandwich to the terminal, as Express Travel Kent publishes them. Traffic on the M2, the M20 or the M25 can stretch or shorten any of them, so the pickup time we suggest is worked back from your flight. Other airports on request.

Local Knowledge
Two championship links lie on the shore east of the town. Royal St George's was founded in 1887 and in 1894 became the first club outside Scotland to stage the Open; it has hosted fifteen, the latest won by Collin Morikawa in 2021. Next door, Prince's held the 1932 Open, won by Gene Sarazen, and today plays as three loops of nine holes called Shore, Dunes and Himalayas.
Whichever London airport you land at, the return leg works the same way. Your flight is tracked, the collection is timed to the real landing, and the driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a board with your name, then helps wheel the bags to the car. The first 45 minutes after an international landing cost nothing extra, and a delay you could not control adds nothing to the fare.
Golf bags are long and awkward beside suitcases, so count them when you book. The fleet runs from a saloon (up to 4 passengers, 2 large cases) through an estate (3 to 4 large cases) to an MPV that seats 6 with 4 or more large cases. Tell us the exact mix of players, clubs and cases, and the car, or a second car, is matched to it before you pay.
The AIG Women's Open comes to Royal St George's for the first time from 28 July to 1 August 2027. During the 2021 Open, temporary orders turned Upper Strand Street, Knightrider Street and Sandown Road into one-way streets whose direction changed at 2pm, and made Guilford Road a no-stopping clearway up to the Bay's toll house. If you are flying in for a tournament week, book early and allow for event traffic around the town.
Pickup Points
Airport and long-distance journeys can start from any of these, as well as from a home address. Give the exact building, house name or entrance when you book.
Collection from the clubhouse after your round, or a drop there straight from arrivals. Say how many bags and travel cases are coming so the boot space is right.
The original clubhouse at the entrance to the course reopened in May 2012 as The Lodge. Collection is from the front, on Prince's Drive.
A private estate with a toll house on the road in. Non-residents' vehicles pay an entry charge, which can be added to the fare where it applies to your pickup. Give the house name rather than just the road.
The 220-acre science and technology park on the former Pfizer research site. Tell us the company and building you are visiting, and the car drops you at that reception or collects you from it.
There is no taxi rank and the car park has only 12 spaces. Trains towards London use platform 1, by the main entrance; platform 2 has its own side gate from Dover Road. Tell us which side you will come out of.
On the riverside close to the Barbican and the Fisher Gate. A practical meeting point if you are staying inside the walls and your street is too tight for a larger car.
Areas We Cover
Every fare is quoted for the exact address you type in, so a village pickup gets its own figure. These are the places this site covers.
Inside the medieval walls, around the Quay and the Guildhall, and the newer streets that spread out towards the bypass. Give a meeting point if your street is a narrow one-way lane.
The private estate between the links and the shore, reached along Sandown Road and Guilford Road to the toll house, with the bird observatory and The Lodge at Prince's inside it.
About two and a half miles south-west of Sandwich, around St Mary's church and Eastry Court, said to stand on the site of a Saxon royal palace. The A256 skirts the village to the east.
Two miles west of the town, a name thought to mean Woden's hill. Collection from any address in the parish, near St Mary's church with its unusual cupola or out in the lanes.
Just over a mile south of Sandwich, around the Norman church of St Peter and St Paul and the Crispin Inn.
About three miles west of Sandwich and the largest of these villages, known by the lead spire of St Nicholas church. The A257 now passes it on a bypass.
South-west of Ash, home to Barnsole Vineyard since 1993 and the Grade I church of St James the Great.
Wingham sits on the A257 with a High Street, the church of St Mary the Virgin and the wildlife park to the north-east. Preston lies close by in the valley of the Little Stour.

The A256 has carried traffic round the town since the bypass opened in 1981, running north to the A299 Thanet Way and south past Eastry towards Dover and the A2. The A257 leaves to the west, round Ash on its 1993 bypass and on through Wingham. Which way the car goes depends on the airport and the hour.
| Typical time | Main roads after Sandwich | |
|---|---|---|
| Gatwick, North or South Terminal | 1h 30m – 1h 50m | A2 to the M25, then the M23 |
| Heathrow, Terminals 2 to 5 | 2h – 2h 30m | A2 and M2, then the M25 west |
| Stansted | 2h – 2h 30m | M2, the Dartford Crossing, the M11 and the A120 |
| Luton | 2h 15m – 2h 45m | M2, the Dartford Crossing, the M25 and the M1 |
| London City | 1h 30m – 1h 50m | A2 to the Blackwall or Silvertown tunnel |
Typical door-to-terminal times, not promises: traffic moves them. Friday afternoons and the first days of school holidays can add 30 to 45 minutes on the M25, and overnight roadworks on the M2 and M25 are common. The Dartford Crossing and the two Thames tunnels charge in the daytime; tolls like these can be added to the fare where your route uses them, while the fixed fare itself never moves with traffic.
Beyond the Airport
The same pre-booked cars and fixed fares cover longer journeys that begin in Sandwich, at the Bay or in the CT3 villages.
01London, a family visit at the other end of the country or a university city up the M1, leaving on the A256 or the A257 with the price agreed before the car arrives.
02Visitors to companies at Discovery Park met off the plane and taken to the right reception, and residents driven to meetings in the City, at Canary Wharf or near London City Airport.
03An executive saloon for a day of golf, a dinner in London or a family celebration, with the car and driver kept for you by the hour or for the whole day.
04Pupils and students carried between a CT13 or CT3 home, their school, college or university and the airport, at the start and end of term or for an exchange trip.
05South on the A256 to the two cruise terminals at Dover's Western Docks, or the longer run to Southampton's five terminals, with an estate or MPV for two weeks of luggage.
Local Knowledge
Sandwich's old town was laid out centuries before motor traffic. Several streets inside the walls are narrow, parts of the centre run one way, and the Toll Bridge over the Stour takes a single lane of traffic, which is why the A256 now goes round the town rather than through it.
None of this stops a pickup, but it helps to plan one. If your house is on a lane where a larger car cannot stop, add a note to the booking and agree a meeting point a few steps away. The driver helps carry the bags, so a short walk to the car is easier than it sounds.
Common Questions
Yes. Give the house name and road when you book. The estate charges non-residents' vehicles for entry at its toll house or online, and that charge can be added to the fare where it applies. The residential roads and the beach close to visitors from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise, so for a pickup in the dark pass on any access arrangements from your host.
We do not publish a golf-bag count per car, because bag sizes vary so much. The fleet page gives suitcase space for each class: an estate takes 3 to 4 large cases and an MPV seats 6 with 4 or more. List every bag and travel case in the booking and the right car, or two, is matched to it.
Gatwick and London City are both typically 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes away. Heathrow and Stansted typically take 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes, and Luton 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes. Traffic changes every one of those figures.
Yes. Give the flight number, the company and the building. The flight is tracked, the driver meets you in arrivals with a name board, and the car drops you at that reception in CT13 9FF. The return can be booked at the same time.
Yes. The station has no rank, so book the car for the train's arrival time and say whether you will leave by the main entrance from the car park or the platform 2 gate on Dover Road.
No. There is no meter, and the fixed fare does not change for traffic, roadworks, a diversion, an early start, a weekend or a bank holiday. Waiting beyond the free time, extra stops, a big change of route asked for on the way, and parking fees or tolls on the journey can be added where they apply.
